Carbohydrates to Fats : How to stop this?

Carbohydrates, as we already know contain 4 K Calories/gram whereas Fats generally contain 9 K Calories/gram.How is it even possible for our body to store Carbohydrates as Fats? Basically the question should be, how can 4 K Calories be stored as 9 K Calories given that 1 gram of some carbohydrate has been consumed.

What happens when you grab and pour down your throat, a bottle or half of some carbonated drink(also called soft drink)?

Carbonated drinks can be the simplest form of carbohydrates you can ever think of. Dissolved glucose content in these drinks do not need further tough digestion. When you take them in , they reach your gut and then travel instantly to your small intestine and the glucose starts getting absorbed into the bloodstream right away.
As a result there is a big insulin spike. Glucose holding capacity of muscle cells and the liver gets saturated in no time and then the fat cells take up the rest of the glucose to manufacture triglycerides and hence the growth in the size of fat cells. The case is no different with any other simple carbohydrate containing food item, be it desserts, candies, packed snacks, cookies, white bread etc.We do not want this to happen, do we?

A simple solution to this could be keeping away from simple carbs and consuming only complex carbs. Let's be practical this ain't gonna happen. Why not pickup some good practices to prevent whatever we eat from turning into fats?

Read carefully how to deal with this :

  • To prevent excess carbohydrates flowing in the blood all at once , make healthy choice of carb sources in your diet. How?
    • Replace white bread with Whole wheat bread(fiber content in whole wheat bread makes digestion slow, keeps you satiated for long and does not spike your insulin)
    • Replace white rice with Brown rice

  • Include green vegetables in your diet every time(They are high in dietary fibers)
  • Embrace a healthier lifestyle by adding exercises and physical activities in your regimen.
  • Weight train to increase muscle mass. Increased muscle mass directly relates to increased glycogen stores in the muscles. This would prevent insulin spikes due to glucose accumulation in the blood and hence eliminate the risk of fat cell growth.
  • Eat simple(fast digesting) carbs after you do your exercises to replenish muscle glycogen stores depleted during the workout.

A healthy lifestyle is a matter of choice but making such a choice is surely a matter of fate.
Take a chance to change your fate right now.
Make it happen.
